According to the 2005 survey by Travel and Leisure, Cape
Town was recently named as Africa’s number 1 destination and number 8 on the list of the world's top destinations.
The
area is considered one of the most beautiful in Africa, with a
cosmopolitan character resulting from the cultural melting pot of
Indonesian, Khoisan, Bantu, French, Dutch, British and German. It is
a place where old and new harmoniously converge - in history,
architecture, cultural pursuits and the essence of its people.
Cape
Town is well served by an abundance of restaurants and entertainment
venues offering a feast of culinary delights. Maybe you prefer the
freshest Sashimi, enjoyed in a traditional Japanese Sushi bar on a
warm summers evening. The Cape is well known for its own brand of
spicy Malay cuisine or maybe you prefer a fiery Thai dinner or a
seafood feast. Whatever your taste, Cape Town has a restaurant to
satisfy your personal preference and afterwards you may head for one
of the numerous night clubs, music pubs or wine bars or if you prefer
something more laid back try one of the many Jazz clubs or cabaret
shows.
Cape
Town is famous for its beautiful antiques - from art nouveau, jewellery
to rare books and precious collectors items which can be discovered in
the stalls along cobble paved Church Street, or from a shop in one of
the original Victorian buildings lining Long Street.
Nearby, the colours,
smells and
sounds of Greenmarket Square, the city's favourite fleamarket
enthralls all who experience it. The city centre is alive with
informal markets and pavement traders, selling a vast array of bargain
items, original curios and collectables, clothes and food. The sound of drumming or children singing often fills the air, giving one
the sense that this is, indeed, the heart and soul of Africa.
Perfectly positioned between Robben Island and Table Mountain in the Cape Town Harbour, the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront has become one of South Africa's most popular destinations. With the day to day activities of the working harbour going on in the background, you will find excellent shopping and entertainment, great hotels and office premises and luxury apartments in the residential marina. Close at hand is the Cape Town International Conference Centre.
