The Northern Suburbs of the Cape Peninsula could be said to start from the working class suburb of Maitland, but in reality they are dominated by three suburbs: Bellville, Parow and Goodwood. The northern areas have become a major entertainment centre, with developments such as the Grand West Casino and the huge Canal Walk shopping mall being sited there.
Century City
This unique city within a city complements the historic central business district of Cape Town and has become a premier destination to work, shop, play and stay. The attractions of Century City include Canal Walk Shopping Centre with its fascinating architecture, over 300 shops, cinemas, restaurants and the MTN Science Centre. Another attraction is the Intaka Island wetland conservation reserve at the heart of the city. There are also 6km of navigable canals at Century City providing an ideal training ground for canoeists. Another must vissit is Sable Square, the first African outlet retail village boosting many factory shops where brand retailers sell excess stock (at a minimum of 30 percent off regular retail prices). Ratanga Junction is a theme park in the Century City area of Milnerton. Its yellow twisting "Cobra" rollercoaster ride is clearly visible as one drives along the N1 National Road, next to the Sable Road turnoff. There are also a number of restaurants and bars and a variety of evening entertainment in the grand hall, theatre rooms and cinemas.
Durbanville
Durbanville is a picturesque wine region, situated 7 km from Table Bay and the beach activities of the Atlantic Ocean. The suburb is nestled against the Tygerberg and is bathed in the warm Cape sunshine during the day, yet is prone to misty nights. The fertile soil of the rolling hills on which Durbanville is built, the warm summer days and cooler nights all contribute to making this area a prime location for wine production.
Goodwood
Named after the famous British racetrack because horse races were originally held there, Goodwood is now best known as being the home of the Grand West Casino and a world class ice skating rink. The town is also close to the century City complex which comprises the huge Canal Walk shopping mall.
