Somerset West is ideally situated as the gateway to the Winelands, it is a mere 30 minute drive from Cape Town, 31km from the airport, 20km from Stellenbosch University and 6 minutes' drive from the False Bay coast with its golden stretches of long sandy beaches.

Somerset West is ideally placed for exploring the winelands of the Western Cape, the Vergelegen and Spier Wine Estates are well worth visiting. It is protected from the coastal winds by the majestic Hottentots Holland Mountains.

Named after Lord Charles Somerset in 1819, Somerset West is the commercial and residential capital of the Helderberg Basin whilst maintaining its village atmosphere. The Helderberg Nature Reserve, close by, is rich in the Cape Fynbos.

The Strand and Gordon's Bay, seaside towns on the warm Indian Ocean of False Bay, are about 15 kilometers away.

Gordon's Bay, including The Strand, is a small, picturesque seaside town at the eastern end of False Bay. Expensive mansions and luxury apartment houses nestle high up on the slope. The white sandy Bikini Beach is known to be particularly well protected from the wind and ideal for swimming. The beachfront promenade is lined with popular fish restaurants, pubs and coffeeshops and in the old harbour, one can book boat trips or deep sea fishing trips in the False Bay.
