The West Coast
The West Coast suburbs hug the coastline of Table Bay, stretching from Milnerton, on the edge of the city, through to Table View and Bloubergstrand.
Milnerton is the edge of the Rietvlei lagoon just before it flows into Table Bay and is within easy reach of the city centre and waterfront, Milnerton is a rapidly growing area. Attractions of note are the beachfront golf course, windsurfing on the lagoon and shopping centres.
From the beach of Blouberg , one of the best and most frequently photographed views of Table Mountain can be seen. Major national and international windsurfing competitions are often held at Big Bay, a popular Atlantic coast resort. A well developed beachfront offers a variety of pubs, restaurants and other vibrant entertainment venues that come to life as the sun goes down.
Any one of the many restaurants strung along the Blouberg beachfront provides unobstructed views over the bay to Robben Island, the island prison made famous by former South African president Nelson Mandela who spent many years incarcerated, along with several of his colleagues for their political convictions. Today the island is an important stop on any visitor's itinerary, day tours are available and leave from the V&A Waterfront.
